It has won a three-time in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and has been the ruling party in West Bengal since 20 May 2011. In 2021-22, the party reported a total income of ₹546 crore, with ₹528 crore or 97% derived from unknown sources, mainly Electoral Bonds. This is significant when compared to previous fiscal year revenue of ₹74.41 crores which shows an increase of 633.36% in funds received by the party. The party initially joined the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), as part of the Vajpayee government, and was initially quite successful, winning 7 seats in its first election in 1998.
