Background

Phukan Karkh lives in Jagiroad, Assam. Phukan Karkh is the president of Tiwa Cultural Society (TCS). Phukan, along with Tiwa organizations, protested against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) bill brought by the Government of India. Phukan Karkh misled the people against CAA, claiming that this bill is against the citizens of Assam, and the government should withdraw it. In this demonstration, demands were also made to give constitutional status to Tiwa Autonomous Council (TAC).
