Background
The CPI (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation is an Indian communist party that emerged in the ferment of the Naxalbari uprising in May 1967. The party was founded on the birth anniversary of Lenin, on April 22, 1969, committing itself to applying Marxism-Leninism in Indian conditions. The CPI (ML) was formed by radicals from the CPI-M, such as Majumdar and Saroj Dutta. Many Naxalite groups trace their origins back to the CPI (ML).
