About: - The commission was founded as the Human Rights Caucus in 1983 by Tom Lantos, a California Democrat, and John Porter, an Illinois Republican. Lantos was Hungarian by birth and had the distinction of being the only Holocaust survivor ever to serve in the Congress. The Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission is a bipartisan body established with the unanimous consent of the United States House of Representatives in 2008. The Commission is charged with promoting, defending and advocating for international human rights as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other relevant human rights instruments. The Commission is chaired by two members of the House of Representatives who are appointed by the Speaker of the House and the Minority Leader. The Speaker and the Leader also name the eight members of the Commission's Executive Committee, four from each party, upon recommendation of the Co-Chairs. TLHRC organised an event in June 2015 to brief about a report titled as ‘Violence Against Religious Minorities in India’. This Organisation is a connected organisation with Ambedkar International Center.
