Background
Tata Institute of Social Sciences founded in 1936 by J. R. D. Tata. Its earlier name was 'Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work'. In 1944, the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work was renamed the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. In 1964, the institute was recognized as a university by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India. The institute has branches in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Tuljhapur and Guwahati.
