Background


Adivasi Vichar Manch is an LWE’s think tank. It has been started by Satish Pendam and sister organization of Birsa Brigade, in which many other organizations are associated. It works to sow the seeds of Hindu and anti-government and anti-government in the minds of the tribals. These people distort tribal history and tell it to the tribals.


Executive Note

      ➣  Adivasi Vichar Manch is relatively less active compared to other Left Wing Extremist (LWE) organizations, likely due to its recent establishment.

      ➣  Birsa Brigade, associated with Adivasi Vichar Manch, opposes development projects under the guise of protecting Adivasi interests. They systematically organize opposition to such projects while simultaneously claiming that the government is neglecting development in tribal areas.

      ➣  These organizations produce films and media content on issues aligned with the Naxalite agenda, furthering their propaganda.

      ➣  Adivasi Vichar Manch spreads propaganda among Adivasi communities, focusing on issues related to the Indian Forest Act, Wildlife Protection Act, Wildlife Conservation Act, Forest Rights, PESA Act - 1996, and the Scheduled Areas under the Fifth and Sixth Schedules.

      ➣  The organization aims to influence Adivasi minds with anti-government and anti-Hindu sentiments, often distorting tribal history to serve their agenda.

Observation

  1. Adivasi Vichar Manch is less active than other LWE organizations as it was established only recently.
  2. Birsa Brigade opposed the Development projects or works in the guise of protecting the interest of Adivasis. These organizations muster the organized opposition to the development projects. Simultaneously in the same breath, they clamour at the top of their voice that Government is not doing any development in the tribal area.
  3. These people make movies on the same issues, on which the Naxalites work.
  4. These are the main propaganda points on which they spread its propaganda in the mind of Adivasi people -
  • Indian Forest Act and Wildlife Protection Act.
  • Wildlife Conservation Act.
  • Forest Rights.
  • PESA Act - 1996.
  • Scheduled Areas - Fifth Schedule (Rights and Laws) and 6th Schedule.

Key People of AVM

1. Satish Pendam - The 46-year-old Satish Pendam left a government job 19 years ago and started working in the Tribal area, later he founded the Birsa Munda Brigade. He has a close connection with NCP chief Sharad Pawar but almost a dozen MLAs from different parties.

He is also a chief organizer of the Self-Respect Movement of Indigenous People, Aadivasi Bachao Andolan, All India Indigenous Students Federation, All India Indigenous Employees Federation, Mission Madhya Bharat and a spokesperson of Aadivasi Vichar Manch and Indigenous Social Activist. Pendam’s strength lies in mobilizing the Tribal Youth for the Political Parties.

  • AVM also works as a front organization of Naxalites on issues like PESA law and village panchayat.
  • These people also had a hand in instigating the tribals in Patthalgarhi.
2. AVM also ran many campaigns -
  • Which were against development (Statue of Unity under the banner of Kevadiya Bachao Adivasi Bachao and Bhima Shankar Eco Sensitive Zone).
  • These people had also launched a Twitter campaign (#ReleaseBabitaKachhap) for Babita Kachhap, which was caught with the Naxalites.
  • Also mobilizes the Adivasi Peoples for the Event called Adivasi Sanskriti Ekta Mahasammelan which was organized by Adivasi Ekta Parishad.
